They are shown to be very shy creatures who will fly away when Spyro approaches them, only giving up the chase when they are captured with Bubble Breath. There are 90 dragonflies who appear throughout Enter the Dragonfly, all of which are scattered around the Dragon Realms by Ripto in an effort to weaken the Dragons. These Dragonflies are trained by the Dragon Masters at the Dragonfly Dojo to become companions to the Dragons. Whenever a Dragon is born, they will receive a Dragonfly to protect them. Most dragonfly attributes that are known originated from Sparx.
Throughout the original series, Spyro is accompanied by a small yellow dragonfly named Sparx, who acts as Spyro's living health meter.
